Going to Istanbul

Going to Istanbul from Safranbolu, it was really nice weather that day.

Leaving Safranbolu, passing through small villages and arrived at a town of Gerede.

Gerede is a town and a district of Bolu Province in the Black Sea region. It is located on the highway from Safranbolu approximately 90km. It took one hour 20 minutes.

Gerede is a small town with a number of tanneries and leather workshops. It has a population of 24,261 in urban and 34,646 district (in 2012).

Through the town of Gerede, went to a café, “Park Esentepe Bistro Cafe & Restaurant” and took a coffee break.

Left the town of Gerede for the next city of Bolu, it took 40 minutes (55 km).

Bolu is a city in Turkey, and administrative center of the Bolu Province. The population is 131,264 (2012 census).

Bolu is a busy market town rather than a large city. It has a long shopping street and an attractive forested mountain countryside.

Bolu is on the new motorway from Istanbul to Ankara, passes through Mount Bolu Tunnel below the town.

Mount Bolu Tunnel is the longest (3.1 km) highway tunnel constructed through the Bolu Mountain in Turkey.

We left the Bolu tunnel and went to the Lake Sapanca. It took an hour (about 100km) to the town of Sapanca.

Arrived in the town of Sapanca and entered a roadside restaurant.

Sapanca is a town and district in the Sakarya Province in the Marmara region near Lake Sapanca.It has a population 33,000 (2012 census).

I tried a regional dish called Chiburekki in the restaurant.

Chiburekki is a deep-fried turnover with a filling of ground or minced meat and onions. A national dish of the Crimean Tatars and traditional for the Caucasian and Turkic peoples.

Fresh water Lake Sapanca is 45 km² and a maximum depth of 52 m.

After walking around the restaurant we left the town of Sapanca for the final city of İstanbul. It is 130km from Sapanca to Bosporus Bridge, takes one hour 30 minutes.

Izmit is located at the Gulf of İzmit in the Sea of Marmara, about 100 km east of Istanbul. The city center has a population of 300,611 (2011 census).

It was 500km from Safranbolu to Bosporus, really long journey.
