Safranbolu was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1994 due to its well-preserved Ottoman era houses and architecture.
Kent Tarihi Muzesi (City History Museum) is old government house. In 1976 the building caught fire and burned down. In the year 2000, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism ordered the renovation of the historic building. Tarihi Saat Kulesi (Historic Clock Tower) Safranbolu was built by Grand Vizier Izzet Mehmet Pasha in ‘’Zefrenbolu Town’’ (old name of Safranbolu), 1797, the period of Ottoman Sultan Selim III.
When I turned a corner, an old house appeared, it’s the famous Old House Museum.
This typical Safranbolu home which was owned by a lieutenant colonel has all the classic features of Ottoman houses. Well, I entered the museum.
The Old Town of Safranbolu preserves many old buildings, with 1008 registered historical artifacts.
