I made friends with the Armenian family, who were going on pilgrimage to the Holy Cross Church on Akdamar Island.

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Akdamar Island, in Lake Van, is a medieval Armenian Apostolic (Armenian Orthodox Church) Cathedral, built as a palatine church for the kings of Vaspurakan and later serving as the seat of the Catholicosate of Aghtamar.

We were watching this landscape for a while. Then, we went down the hill, got aboard the ferry and headed to the opposite shore.

On the ferry from Akdamar Island to the city of Van, I met another Armenian family who were pilgrims to Holy Cross church.

I did not see them richly, but they looked happy. They had been so well content.  “Have a safe and nice trip to the hometown. Hրաժեշտ (Goodbye).”
