From Queen’s Hotel, went to the Temple along the Kandy Lake.
Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.
Sri Dalada Maligawa, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.

Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala thero was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk, who was one of the pioneers of Sri Lankan Buddhist revivalist movement in the 19th century. He did a great service to improve the Buddhist Education in the country and was the founder of Vidyodaya Pirivena (for the education of Buddhist monks) Maligakanda.
Sri Dalada Maligawa; The Temple of Tooth at kandy is the final location of the sacred tooth of the lord Buddha which was brought to srilanka during the reign of king “keerthi sri Megawarna” by prince “Dantha” and Princess “Hemamala” from the kindom of kalingu India.
Buddha’s tooth is kept behind the curtain inside this shrine. It is not exposed to the public, as it is eternally displayed inside 7 golden caskets ( in each one getting smaller and smaller ), with the shape of a stupa. It is taken out once a year and carried around the city on the back of an elephant.
When it is a certain period of time, a lot of believers gather and pray.
The Audience Hall was the place where the king had carried out his administration work with ministers on governing matters. It This was first built in 1784 A.D.
Walking along the lakeside, an old building appears, it’s the Queens Bath.
This is situated in the Kandy Lake near to present Temple of the Tooth relic complex.
There is a small artificial island close to the Queens Bath. It’s called as “diyathilaka mandapaya,” an ancient king’s playground.
There is a house, they call as “Kandyan Art Association.” You can enjoy Kandyan dance here.
Kandy Dance; Kandyan dance has been danced in the court by the time of the Kandy Dynasty. And it was incorporated with dancing of each place in the region. Exorcism and fire dance are incorporated in the Kandyan dance.
They were changing very fast, so It is difficult to take a picture. Most photographs are out of focus. Soon, the noisy show was over. “Well, let’s return to the hotel!”
