Villadangos del Páramo, Province of León

Left Leon, headed the town of Villadangos del Páramo through the town of La Virgen del Camino and two vilages of San Miguel del Camino and Valverde de la Virgen.

La Virgen del Camino is a town in the province of León, and the population is around 4,500 inhabitants. It is very close to the city of León. The town has a famous cathedral called Basílica de La Virgen del Camino.

Virgen del Camino; Patron saint Our Lady of Leon have kept an eye upon the pilgrims. A Marian devotion in Christianity is directed to the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

According to the local legend, the Virgin Mary once appeared in the town. There was a chapel in the 16 century, where a shepherd of Velilla de la Reina, Alvar Simón Fernández, saw the apparition of Virgin Mary in 2nd July 1505.

The apparition is also referred to as Our Lady of the Rosary of Camino, because the shepherd  later said that the apparition called herself the “Lady of the Rosary”.

The current basilica was built between 1957 and 1961 on the place  where the Holy Mother appeared.

After the Basilica of La Virgen del Camino, walked up to the next town of Valverde de la Virgen and San Miguel del Camino.

San Miguel del Camino is a small vilage, in the municipality of Valverde de la Virgen. The village has a population of 494.

Villadangos del Páramo is a municipality located in the province of Castile and León. According to the 2004 census, the municipality has a population of 1,018 inhabitants.

Parish church of Villadangos del Páramo is dedicated to St. James, patron saint of the town. This church dates from the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century.

In the center of the Baroque altarpiece, the image of “Santiago Matamoros” is featured, riding horse with sword and a Moor at the foot of the horse.

Villadangos del Páramo is a small and quiet town. Residents are honest and helpful. An old man said “I’ve never left this land after being born and well know of Tokyo on TV. Tokyo is not the place where the person lives in, you should come and live with us.” I replied “Gracias señor, I must go to Santiago de Compostela now, and will think about it after the pilgrimage.
