Hronsek (population of 606) is a village in Banska Bystrica district. It is located on the left bank of the river Hron about 10 km south of Banska Bystrica. There are three historical and cultural monuments, the most famous landmark is the wooden church of 18 century. The area of Hronsek was originally a royal property.
I went to the old castle on foot about 100m. It’s called Vodný hrad (Water Castle). The castle was under restroration.
Vodný hrad (Water Castle), the oldest surviving building is a moated castle from the 15th century. In 1576 this was Rothovsko-Telekyovský castle was rebuilt and fortified.
I strolled the village and went to Soósovsko-Géczyovský kaštieľ (manor-house).
Soos-Géczy (manor-house) was built in baroque style ca. 1775. It has a rectangular floor plan with a circular bastions.
The outer facade is richly articulated Rococo stucco decoration. Interior decorated with original Prussian vaults. The castle garden is old, over 200 years, lime and mighty oak trees flourish.
