Štrbské Pleso (Lake), Slovakia

After the going down Lominicky Stit, I had a late lunch at the restaurant called “stara mama.” Atmosphere inside is very homely and cosily, soft and warm light. Tasty food and good prices. Nice to have lunch there after hiking.

Štrbské Pleso is the highest-place in Slovakia and also the highest resorts in Central Europe. For this reason, especially respiratory diseases are treated here. The highlight of the place is the eponymous lake, which is also very easy and comfortable to reach, with a train.

The current Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras consists of three interlinked historical buildings built 1893 – 1923. The oldest building dates back to 1893. Originally, Jozef Szentiványi had built it for his own hunting lodge and named it Jozef’s villa. The romantic villa was visited by the highest levels of the aristocracy. Guests included several family members of the House of Habsburg and the House of Coburg, the King of Serbia – Milan and others.
