Štrbské Pleso is the highest-place in Slovakia and also the highest resorts in Central Europe. For this reason, especially respiratory diseases are treated here. The highlight of the place is the eponymous lake, which is also very easy and comfortable to reach, with a train.
Jozef Szentiványi (1817-1906, from a noble family with roots in the nearby village of Liptovský Ján) built a hunting lodge on the banks of Štrbské pleso 1872.
The current Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras consists of three interlinked historical buildings built 1893 – 1923. The oldest building dates back to 1893. Originally, Jozef Szentiványi had built it for his own hunting lodge and named it Jozef’s villa. The romantic villa was visited by the highest levels of the aristocracy. Guests included several family members of the House of Habsburg and the House of Coburg, the King of Serbia – Milan and others.
Going back to the htel in Stary Smokovec, I left Štrbské Pleso.
