Zugdidi Dadiani Palace, Georgia

Zugdidi is a city in the Western Georgian historical province of Samegrelo. The city is located 318 kilometres west of Tbilisi, 30 km from Black sea coast. The City has a population of 75,900. The city is the capital of the Samegrelo-Svaneti region.

I had lunch at a restaurant in Zugdidi, felt good. People of this town are shy, but are kind.

Dadiani Palaces History and Architectural Museum is a Georgian national museum in Zugdidi Central Park and is considered to be one of the most eminent palaces in Caucasus.

For centuries, Samegrelo was ruled by the powerful Dadiani family. Over the centuries, the House of Dadiani has produced noted writers, historians, military leaders, statesmen, clergy, athletes, and other illustrious personalities, in addition to the ruling Dukes and Principals of the province .

This attached Church was built in 1838 as the personal church of the Dadiani family.

The small stone church named “Church of the Icon of the Mother of God” is a typical Christian Orthodox church – no seats inside, just open space with stations to light candles and some religious icons here and there around the interior.
