The Black Desert is located approximately 50 km of South of Bawiti. The Black Desert is a region of volcano-shaped mountains with large quantities of small black stones. The mountains have eroded to coat the desert with a layer of black powder and rocks giving it its name.

English Mountain, Black Desert

English Mountain is the highest point in the Black Desert, where the British Armed Forces, in First World War, monitored the movements of the local Sanussi tribe from Libya. There are the ruins of the observation post of the British patrol on the hilltop.

I found a grasshopper on the Black desert.

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
